BOSCOMBE

Originally built in 1889 as a promotion of then uninhabited Boscombe region this Victorian pier was a very popular attraction for boat trips on steamers up till late 1920’s. Demolished during the war it was left abandoned for many years and was restored only in 1962 by modernist architect John Burton. The boomerang shaped roof from thin concrete slab and tiles with square window framing was an homage to Frank Lloyd Wright. Although only twenty years later pier structure proved to be not safe and was closed again for a long period.
Now fully restored 230 meter long Boscombe pier even has a first ever eco-friendly mini golf with special golf balls made of fish food to feed marine life.
