CHAGALL EMBANKMENT

2019-2020

The Marc Chagall Embankment was developed as the main artery connecting the city, the park and the river. The embankment is a direct part of the green belt of ZIL Parks - these are areas of art, sports, culture and recreation, a public space accessible at any time of the day. The residential quarters are oriented towards the Embankment, a green public space along the Moskva River.

The landscaping concept was developed taking into account the preservation of existing trees and the planting of new ones, the arrangement of lawns, illuminated walking and cycling routes that connect the parks with each other and are part of a single plan for the improvement and development of green areas.

EMBANKMENT DESIGN PRINCIPLES

PRINCIPLE 1: Reunification waterfront cities

The embankment should become a link a linear park running from the ZIL Berth to the port of urban significance Planet Zil. The first stage of implementation will serve as a recreational park for the local population of the new ZIL district. The embankment will become a place for walks, games, outdoor activities and entertainment.
By 2030, the implementation of the concept the development of the embankments of the Moskva River will allow the embankment to become a direct part of the transit pedestrian and bicycle route.

PRINCIPLE 2: Create a high quality public space

The park on the Embankment is part of the system of public spaces within the framework of the ZIL project. In addition to it, there is an active city Boulevard, a recreational park with a predominantly sports function, and the port of urban significance Planet ZIL. It is necessary to create a recognizable environment and a variety of nature and buildings along the coast.

PRINCIPLE 3: Multiple functions and off-season

Involvement of local communities in the process of designing and programming the territory to create a positive mood of residents for the development of the project.
The embankment should be based on an integrated approach to the multifunctional design of adjacent areas. It is necessary to provide functional zones adapted for the cold season.

SHAPING AND FORMATION

It is proposed to arrange a landscape on the embankment that will create a comfortable natural environment and protect visitors from the cold wind from the river in winter. It is planned to create a multifunctional landscape, including places of recreation, pavilions and other interactions between man and terrain.
Aerodynamic studies show that the creation of vertical or almost vertical and impenetrable wind barriers is not effective, as this provokes air wind turbulence.
Hill slopes from 10 to 20% with the subsequent planting of trees and old trees on them - provide optimal protection from the wind and the most successful conditions for the interaction of man-relief.
